Tangoche

General Director: Germán Farias

Synopsis:
«Tangoche» is a theater and dance piece that portrays life in a community living in a small, old conventillo by the river, near the port of Buenos Aires. Created in 2019, this piece is inspired by the experiences of immigrants who arrived in Argentina fleeing the war in Europe, finding refuge in these conventillos where they lived in cramped, shared spaces.

The work does not focus on a specific story or detailed historical representation, but rather on how, during this era, a lifestyle developed that still influences this part of Latin America, especially through tango music and dance. Through the characters living in this conventillo, the piece shows the meeting of diverse realities, the origin of a unique way of speaking Spanish, the passionate card game «Truco,» and, above all, the close-knit living conditions of people from different backgrounds, known as «conventilleros,» who are often preoccupied with what their neighbors are doing.

The audience is invited to enjoy the experience with all their senses, encouraged to move freely, converse, and, why not, dance. The conventillo is the show, and the audience is already part of it.

Objectives and Motivation:
«Tangoche» aims to offer a theatrical experience that explores the rich cultural history of the conventillos and their impact on the formation of tango. Through dance, theater, and music, the piece seeks to capture the essence of life in these communal spaces and their lasting influence on Argentine culture.

Artistic and Cultural Impact:
This project stands out for its ability to blend historical and cultural elements with a visually and emotionally evocative narrative. «Tangoche» aims not only to entertain but also to educate and delve into universal themes such as migration, coexistence, and cultural identity, promoting critical and emotional reflection in the audience.

Future Vision:
«Tangoche» aspires to continue impacting and connecting with audiences, expanding its influence both locally and internationally. Through its multidisciplinary approach and unique narrative, the project seeks to keep inspiring and challenging perceptions about art and communal life.
